Matt-painted pottery on the Ionian Islands. From the Middle Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age

 FULL TEXT

 ABSTRACT (en)

A discrete number of matt-pained pottery that can be dated between the Middle Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age has been found on all the Ionian Islands, but there is little chronological or stylistic overlap be tween the occurrences. The examination of the types of wares represented and the contexts in which this pottery has been found reveal that there is little in terms of connections between the pottery of the different periods. The stylistic affinities of this pottery are with the pottery of areas that range geographically from the southern and north-western Greek mainland to western Macedonia and southern Albania and reveal separate cultural influences and pathways of connectivity.
